A helicopter was flying around above Seattle yesterday when an electrical malfunction disabled all of the aircraft's electronic navigation and communications equipment. Due to the clouds and haze, the pilot could not determine the helicopter's position and course to steer to the airport.
The pilot saw a tall building, flew toward it, circled, drew a handwritten sign, and held it in the helicopter's window. The pilot's sign said ''WHERE AM I?'' in large letters.
People in the tall building quickly responded to the aircraft, drew a large sign, and held it in a building window. Their sign said ''YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER.''
The pilot smiled, waved, looked at his map, determined the course to steer to SEATAC airport, and landed safely.
After they were on the ground, the co-pilot asked the pilot how the ''YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER'' sign helped determine their position.
The pilot responded ''I knew that had to be the MICROSOFT building because, similar to their help-lines, they gave me a technically correct but completely useless answer.''

Oblique是迂迴間接的，拐彎抹角的。雖然笑話本身沒有出現oblique這個字，但比那樣更好，這個笑話本身就屬於oblique類。
什麼叫oblique類笑話？那就是繞著彎的，要轉幾轉才能聽出沒明說出來的意思。在這個笑話裡，不直接說微軟常講廢話，而是從機長由大樓人們的無用回應得救來引人不解，最後才把兩者的關係點破讓人恍然大悟這含蓄中的諷刺。
Oblique在修辭學中叫婉曲。話不講透，偏要人推敲琢磨，究竟有什麼意義？婉曲含蓄，使餘韻流長。祝英台直接跟梁山伯示愛，戲應該不到三分鐘就可以謝幕了，但捧場的人一定不多。但她在十八相送中頻頻暗示，梁山伯始終不解風情，讓觀眾為他著急，最後釀成悲劇，卻千古流傳。
有時不講透是為了避罪。齊威王即位，荒淫無道，敢諌者死。大家都不敢言，只有淳于髡，講個大鳥不飛的故事，obliquely痛罵齊威王一頓。偏偏又沒明講，當皇帝的又不便對號入座，只好聽完。聽著聽著，羞恥心被激發了，從此發憤圖強，一飛沖天。
五祖弘忍在六祖惠能舂米的碓上擊杖三下，惠能便知在半夜三更到弘忍房中聽法，得傳衣缽，這又是oblique的最高境界。換做是我，可能會理解成下次替五祖添飯，要盛三碗才夠吃。
